Mumbai court rejects Teesta Setalvad’s anticipatory bail

Mumbai, July 24 (ANI): A sessions court in Mumbai on Friday rejected the anticipatory bail application of activist Teesta Setalvad, accused by the Gujarat government of misusing funds meant for the victims of the 2002 riots. Setalvad may now face arrest. The Gujarat government had last week alleged before the Supreme Court that Setalvad and her husband Javed Anand had embezzled the funds for “wine and other lifestyle luxuries” and accused the couple of not cooperating in the investigation and tampering with evidence in the case. Setalwad, her husband Javed Anand, former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri’s (who was killed in Gujarat during the 2002 riots) son Tanvir Jafri are accused of misappropriating funds worth over Rs one crore. An FIR had reportedly been lodged last year against the activist and the others for allegedly misappropriating the funds meant for a museum for the riot victims.
