Nation celebrates Guru Purnima with much fervour

Varanasi, July 31 (ANI): Devotees thronged at various temples in parts of India to offer prayers on the occasion of ‘Guru Purnima’ on Friday. Devotees were seen standing in queues waiting to reach the temple gates and offer prayers. A priest at a temple talked about the relevance of the festival. The word ‘Guru’ in Sanskrit translates to ‘the remover of darkness’. Indian culture has always respected and honoured Gurus. The day of full moon, Purnima, in the month of Ashadh of the Hindu calendar is traditionally celebrated as Guru Purnima. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended Guru Purnima greetings to everyone. “Guru Purnima greetings to everyone,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
