Cloudburst triggers flash floods in Himachal Pradesh

Mandi/ Rampur, Aug 09 (ANI): Flash floods triggered by cloudburst wrecked havoc in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, inundating vast areas and washing away vehicles. Heavy rains disrupted normal life and transportation at Dharampur area of the district. Local people were engaged in rescue and relief works. The strong water currents, however, hampered rescue operations. Deputy Commissioner of Mandi district, Sandeep Kadam, said that rescue operations were being carried out. Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Virbhadra Singh, said that immediate relief and compensation will be provided to those affected. Several regions of the state have been experiencing landslides due to excessive rainfall. State meteorological department has predicted heavy to moderate rains in the next 48 hours. But excessive rainfalls cause problems like floods, landslide and water-borne diseases.
