PM Modi meets delegation of Sufi scholars

New Delhi, Aug 28 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi met a delegation of 40 Barelvi Sufi scholars from various parts of the country in New Delhi. A government press release said that during his meeting with the Sufi scholars, Modi said the ideology propounded by Sufi saints was an integral part of Indian ethos and has contributed significantly to the creation of a pluralistic, multi cultural society in India. The delegation members included President and Founder of the All India Ulama and Mashaikh Board (AIUMB), Hazrat Syed Mohammad Ashraf Kichhowchhwi; Chairman of Makhdoom Ashraf Mission, Kolkata, Hazrat Syed Jalaluddin Ashraf and educationist Janab Nesar Ahmed among others. Modi said that forces of extremism were attempting to weaken the Sufi ideology and added it was essential for Sufi saints and scholars to counter these forces through various avenues including on social media, so that the ideology of extremism does not take root in India.
