Violence on Kashmir border brings life to a halt

Balakote, Aug 20 (ANI): Life has come to a standstill for the villagers living near border in Jammu and Kashmir, where firing and shelling by Pakistani Rangers has been continuing since last week. In the latest incident, firing took place in Hamirpur and Balakote sectors of Kashmir though no one was injured. The continuous firing has scared the villagers who are forced to flee homes, while those choosing to stay back are finding it difficult to manage without the basic amenities. Students too are bearing the brunt as schools have been shut for an indefinite period. Another resident, Mohammad Altaf, complained of government’s apathy. Since August 14, when Pakistan celebrated its Independence Day, there has been an escalation of tension along the Line of Control (LoC). The troops of both the countries traded gunfire and mortar rounds along their frontier earlier this week, killing eight people.
