Elephant herd strays into Midnapore, destroy crops

Midnapore, Nov 27 (ANI): A herd of around 70 elephants went on a rampage in Midnapore village in West Bengal, on Friday destroying crops on acres of farm land. Helpless farmers watched as the elephants ran amok on their fields and damaged the crops. Villagers used crackers and fire torches to drive the elephants back to the nearby forest from where they strayed. Villages said they have been falling prey to elephant attacks for the past three years, but nothing substantial has been done on the part of the authorities.
