Kailash Satyarthi calls for fulfilling fundamental right to education

New Delhi, Dec 02 (ANI): Nobel Peace Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi called for universal access to education, which is the fundamental tool for sustainable development. Satyarthi was speaking at the United Nations Public Lecture on Sustainable Development Begins with Education in New Delhi. Satyarthi said education is the first step towards Sustainable Development Goals. He called for fulfilling the fundamental right to education of every person, and stepping up efforts to end child labour and exploitation. He also said each and every person needs to work at their level to help achieve these goals. Satyarthi, whose charity Bachpan Bachao Andolan (Save the Childhood Movement) is credited with rescuing more than 80,000 enslaved children, welcomed adoption of the SDGs but said governments now had a responsibility to allocate adequate budgets and design suitable policies.
