VVIP chopper scam: Defence minister demands answers from former government

Dehradun /New Delhi, Apr 30 (ANI): Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar demanded answers from Congress party-led former United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in the multi-million dollar helicopter deal scam. Speaking at the stone foundation laying ceremony of Uttarakhand State War Memorial in Dehradun, he said the biggest question in this deal is who took the bribes. The former government must answer this because Italian high court equivalent has clearly said that bribes worth 1.25 billion rupees were paid to India. Meanwhile, then defence minister, A.K. Antony, challenged the government take action in the scam. New Delhi froze payments for the helicopters in February 2013 after Italian police arrested Giuseppe Orsi, Finmeccanica’s then chairman and chief executive, for allegedly paying bribes to middlemen to secure the deal.
