Beef possession not a criminal offence: Bombay HC

Mumbai, May 06 (ANI): The Bombay High Court on Friday ruled that beef ban will continue in Maharashtra. The Bombay High Court, after hearing arguments on a bunch of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the beef ban in Maharashtra, pronounced that ban on beef won’t be scrapped. However the court said that beef possessions (if brought from outside Maharashtra) will not be a criminal offence. Hailing the decision, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the HC in its verdict has upheld most of the part of the act as constitutional. He also said that 1 of 2 provisions struck down by the HC pertains to interstate transportation on this issue.
