Scorching heat affects migration of flamingos in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, May 02 (ANI): One of India’s few flamingo habitats, Ameenpur Lake in Hyderabad is on the verge of drying up due to rising temperatures. A very unusual high temperature at the onset of summers is posing a severe threat to one of the few flamingo habitats in the world as the number of species have declined over past few years. Nazma Isharati, a member of Birds Association on Sunday expressed her concern over the falling water-level of the lake amid worsening heat wave conditions. Wildlife photographers have blamed encroachments and improper maintenance of water reservoirs for the crisis. The state’s western and southern regions have been badly hit by excruciating summers and this is affecting the migration of birds, including flamingos.
