Shillong, May 30 (ANI): Shillong, a city known as the ‘abode of clouds’, recently hosted India’s first ever La Tomatina festival. Both locals and tourists made the most of the fun-filled festival that was organised to promote tourism in Meghalaya. Hundreds of people took part in the event that saw the use of several quintals of ripe tomatoes. The festival was held in collaboration with Directorate of Horticulture, Meghalaya and Khasi Jaintia Vegetable Sellers Association. The organisers made use of tomatoes discarded by local vegetable sellers. A music band comprising differently-abled children from Bethany Society performed the event and won many hearts. The festival also hosted an exhibition where handicraft items and horticulture products were put on display.
