Scholars discuss ways to promote peace, development in northeast

New Delhi, Aug 25 (ANI): ‘Alternative Politics: New Vision, New Path’ was the theme of a day-long conversation organised by Naga Scholars’ Organisation in New Delhi. Attended by scholars from northeast and other parts of the country, they discussed various aspects to bring the land-locked northeast to the mainstream politics. Scholars were of the view that the northeast region has suffered militancy and conflicts for many years and time has come to bring the region to the mainstream and promote peace and development. The government’s pro-active approach towards bringing the country’s northeast region to the mainstream was appreciated by participants. In recent years, many insurgency outfits have shunned violence and joined the mainstream. Many insurgent outfits like ULFA and NSCN (IM) are in talks with the government to resolve their concerns. Scholars called upon people of the northeast to shun insurgency and enter into a dialogue with the government of India to resolve their issues. It is inspiring to note that people in the northeast have realised the futility of violence and have now been contributing to peace and development in the region.
