Scrub typhus claims 7 lives in Shimla

Shimla, Sep 06 (ANI): Shimla is in the grip of scrub typhus fever again and it has claimed the lives of seven people until now. Scrub typhus is an acute, febrile, infectious illness is caused by mites. In the past 9 months, 1,500 samples have been collected at the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital and over 250 have tested positive for the fever. The Medical Superintendent of IGMC said that since 2008, over 25 patients are dying every year due to scrub typhus. Several cases of scrub typhus have also been reported from Solan, Bilaspur and Mandi districts of the state.
