No leave for Bihar CM in 5 years

PATNA: Do you know any public servant who works 24×7, round the year? Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar says he is one.

Since November 24, 2005 when he assumed office, he hasn’t taken a single off. Thus he blogged in his latest post: “I must share with you that I have not taken any leave as such during my tenure. I once went to Mumbai for a day to receive an award and stayed in Bangalore for a night to attend a wedding. I also went to Punjab and Kolkata for election campaigns and visited Mauritius once as a part of an official delegation.

“I have been working every day without a break, thinking often of the philosophy of ‘aharnish seva’ (uninterrupted work through day and night). I understand this will need to go on, without any let-up, in the hope of more and more people joining together to bring a brighter future for all of us.’’

The workaholic, who says he would work for another 147 days before completing five years in office, has also shared his experience during the month-long ‘Vishwas Yatra’ which concluded last week. ‘‘I am not fully satisfied (with the implementation of various schemes). A lot of things are to be done, and we are already in the process of prioritizing some of them,’’ he writes and adds post-yatra, he has ‘‘a fairly modest sense of assertion’’ that Bihar is very much on the way to a better and more secure time.

‘‘It is vital to note here that this social transformation or, for that matter, any development would not have been possible without peace in society. I had shared in one of my previous posts that ensuring lasting peace was a critical bottomline for my administration. I am happy at the yields today,’’ the CM blogged.
