The continued unseasonal rains are raising fears of flash floods in the mountainous region. The fresh spell of shower in Rajouri district has cast fears among the locals.

Director of Indian Meteorological Department in Jammu and Kashmir, Sonam Lotus, said that evening and Thursday (April 02) morning are crucial days as some places may receive heavy rainfall. The families, which were rescued in the Chandak area of Poonch district, were supplied with rations, under Megh Rahat Operation, by the Indian Army.

However, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, said that these protest were unnecessary. Meanwhile, in order to prevent flood like situation, locals in Srinagar prepared a special divine dish to propitiate their gods. The dish is a kind of Kashmiri Pulao, made up of rice and potatoes.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir assembly on Wednesday erupted in uproar over the flood situation in the valley and the state government’s response to the same. The National Conference and the Congress raised slogans against the government, and accused it of doing little to help the people. National Conference members were later marshaled out of the assembly.

Indian army has said all the arrangements are in place to deal with any emergency situation that may come up in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir. Heavy rains and a landslide in the Himalayan region of Kashmir killed 17 people, as authorities continued working to rescue stranded villagers. On Tuesday, army choppers hovered over the overcast sky of the valley to take stock of the situation.
