Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik carves out Sculpture in Support of Nepal Earthquake Victims

Bhubaneswar: Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik carved out a sculpture out of sand in Puri on the devastating earthquake that hit Nepal killing over 1900 and injuring over 5000.

On Sunday, rescuers dug with their bare hands and bodies piled up in Nepal after the earthquake devastated the heavily crowded Kathmandu valley and triggered a deadly avalanche on Mount Everest. Patnaik, along with his students, used five tonnes of sand to make a huge sculpture on the massive quake of 7.9 magnitude that struck at midday on Saturday in Nepal at a busy time of year.

He added that since several native and foreign tourists visit the popular Puri beach in Odisha, the sculpture will raise awareness on extending help to Nepal.

Meanwhile, vice-president of Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal, Surinder Singh Ahluwalia, visited the injured in Siliguri city.

As per reports, five were killed while over 40 were injured due to the quake. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee talked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday regarding rescue work and assistance.
