Siliguri (West Bengal), Mar 28 (ANI): A three-day long all India synchronized elephant census kicked off in the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary near Siliguri in West-Bengal. It is also learnt from that census is being conducted in the states of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh apart from West-Bengal. Around 800 people are engaged in the three-day census in North Bengal forests along with several NGOs. The last census was carried out in North Bengal in 2014 and it had revealed the population of 590. The census would cover an area of 1828 square km from Mechi River near Indo-Nepal border to Sankosh, border Assam.
