Second phase of Nepal elections sees huge turnout despite showers

Kathmandu (Nepal) June 28 (ANI): Voters gathered in large numbers in the restive south of Nepal for the second phase of local polls in three provinces of the country. The Election commission recorded a turnout of 33 percent in only the first four hours pollingOver 6.4 million eligible voters in province no. 1, 5 and 7 are casting their votes to choose the candidate of their choice. Up to 8,364 polling stations have been set up in the three provinces which are set to vote today. The Ministry of Home Affairs have deployed 1,60,000 security personnel to ensure security. Nepal on May 14 held the first phase of local polls. The third phase of the polls will be held on September 18 in Province no. 2, the Terai Region which is the home of the agitating Madheshi Parties. The Madhesh Leaders have been demanding an amendment of the constitution to ensure their participation in the elections.
