Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Nov 08 (ANI): Customs department seized 490 Indian star tortoises at Kasimedu fishing yard in Chennai on Thursday. The tortoises found in two thermocol boxes were being smuggled to Malaysia. The export of star tortoises is prohibited under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. The seized tortoises were handed over to forest officials for further necessary actions. These are traded for food, used in traditional medicines and also kept as exotic pets.
